Dr. Mertens is Head of Allianz Client & Chief Sustainability Officer of PIMCO Prime Real Estate. He is a Member of the Executive Committee and a voting Member on both the Equity and Debt Investment Committees. Prior to this, Dr. Mertens was Chief Risk Officer having joined the company in 2015, then named Allianz Real Estate, as Global Head of Portfolio Management. He has been with the Allianz Group since 2004 where he held several positions including Group Head of Alternative Investments and Director at Allianz Investment Management. Dr. Mertens has also served as Head of Alternative Investments-Controlling at Allianz Deutschland AG and Investment Officer Alternative Investments at Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG. He holds a Ph.D. from University of Kiel, Germany, and an MBA equivalent (Dipl.-Kfm.) from the Universities of Kiel and Trier.
